Description
No. 31 Market Street is a house that has been converted into a shop, dating from around 1840. It features a façade made of Ham Hill stone ashlar, with coursed and squared limestone on the rest of the building. The roof is hipped and covered with slate, and there is a brick stack on the right side. The building has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys tall, with a symmetrical arrangement of three windows. The entire ground floor has been altered in the mid-20th century to create a double-fronted shop that faces north, with an additional window on the far left of the left return. The façade is enhanced by canted pilasters at the corners, a cornice, and a low parapet. On the first floor, the central window is a tripartite sash with six-over-six panes, flanked by two eight-over-eight pane sashes, all featuring shallow floating cornices supported by consoles. The interior has not been inspected. This building is included for its group value.
