Description

This is an early 19th-century house, now operating as a cafe, located on West Street in Crewkerne. The house is constructed of roughly-laid limestone rubble, with a base of Ham Hill stone and a stone architrave over the front door. It has a slate roof with stepped stone coping and a brick chimney on the left gable. The building follows a double-depth plan and has two storeys and a three-window front. The windows are 8/8-pane sashes in forward frames, with gauged flat stone arches above. To the left of the front door is a projecting bay, likely a former shop window, featuring larger 8/8-pane sashes flanked by moulded pilasters, consoles, and a cornice. Inside, the left front room contains a late 19th-century fireplace with a black marble surround. A stick-baluster staircase dates to the early 19th century.
