Description

This is a late 18th-century shop and house located on the south side of High Street in Bampton. The building is constructed of coursed rubble limestone with a semi-dressed front and quoins, topped by a 20th-century slate roof and a rebuilt ashlar chimney on the right side. It is two storeys high and has three bays. On the first floor, the original windows remain, including a three-light wood and metal window on each outer bay, and a two-light wood and metal casement in the centre, all with flat stone arches. The right-hand bay on the ground floor still has its original window opening, which has a flat stone arch and now contains a 20th-century three-light wooden casement. The left-hand bays on the ground floor have been altered, featuring a 20th-century half-glazed door between two and three-light wooden casements, all set beneath a single wooden lintel. An iron hook is set into the end of the beam above the lintel.
