Description

This is an early 19th-century house, now used as two shops, located on Church Street in Crewkerne. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with a stepped stone coping to the slate roof, and has brick stacks at the gable ends. It follows an L-shaped plan.

The two-storey facade has a three-window arrangement. The first floor has flat stone arches above the windows; the left window is a 2/2-pane sash, while the central and right windows are 20th-century 2-light casements. The ground floor shops were altered in the late 19th century and 20th century. The shop on the left has consoles flanking the fascia, with a more complete design featuring a recessed central door with overlight between plate-glass windows, set on a Ham Hill stone plinth. The shop on the right is a 20th-century addition with a door to its left. Rear extensions date to the 19th century; No. 6 has a first-floor window with a 3-light casement under a wooden lintel. The interiors have been extensively altered. The building is included on the list for its group value.
