House and archway. Early C19. MATERIALS: coursed limestone rubble with pantile roof and brick stacks to gable ends. PLAN: double-depth plan. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; 2-window range. Gauged flat stone arches over 3-light casements with glazing bars, taller to the ground-floor right. Steps up to the central door and small forecourt. The 6-panel door, glazed to the top with fleur-de-lys obscured glass, and with a classical female head knocker, is set in a casement-moulded architrave. To the left of it is a wide segmental brick arch to a carriageway, springing from the door lintel-level, and tall because the door is above street-level. Painted onto the gauged bricks of the arch is: JG HOARE. COACHBUILDER. WHEELWRIGHT. CARPENTER. BLACK & BRIGHT. SMITH. LOCKS, OF ALL KINDS REPAIRED. There are also traces of fixings for a hanging sign. INTERIOR not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: the raised forecourt is enclosed by spearhead railings which sweep up slightly to the right; a small gate gives access to the forecourt. The elaborate double gates to the archway are late C19 cast-iron; each gate has 4 large fleur-de-lys in circles as the central horizontal rail with small scrolls above.
