Description

Fisher Lodge and Archways is a house, now divided into two houses, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century with later alterations and additions. The building is constructed of coursed squared sandstone rubble with limestone ashlar and dressings, brick, and part rendered, topped with a two-span slate roof featuring raised coped verges, double Roman tiles, and a pantiled rear wing. It has an L-plan layout, is two storeys high, and has five windows.

On the ground floor, there are two ashlar bays with early 19th-century French windows flanked by sidelights, a cornice, and a blocking course. The central entrance features double glazed doors in a moulded architrave with a triple keystone, topped by a wide lead canopy supported by slender cast iron piers with a wrought iron frieze. The first floor has five 2-light casements, each with four panes, set in flat architraves with triple projecting keystones. The building also features projecting long and short quoins, a cornice, a parapet with coping, and two 20th-century roof lights.

To the left, there is a single-storey addition with a pitched double Roman tiled roof and a 20th-century window at the front. To the right, set back, is a 20th-century flat-roofed addition with a 20th-century glazed door and window. The right return is rendered and has four 2-light casements on the first floor. The left return includes a small single-storey addition with a 20th-century door and window, while the ground and first floors feature a 4-pane sash window. The attic level has a sash window to the left and a plate-glass sash to the right, both with gauged brick cambered heads, and is partly rendered to the right.

At the rear, there is a 20th-century door and window on the ground floor, while the first floor features an 18-pane sash window with a gauged brick head, a tall round-headed stair light with gothic intersecting glazing bars, and a 4-pane sash window. The second floor has two 16-pane sashes. A lower two-storey rear wing from the later 19th century has a 3-light casement on the ground floor and a 4-light casement on the first floor, both with segmental gauged brick heads, and a 20th-century door to the right with a similar head. The interior has not been inspected.
