Description

Crickback Bridge is a bridge located in Chew Magna, likely dating from the 17th century. It is constructed of coursed local rubble and features a pointed arch on each side of a central cutwater. The bridge does not have a parapet, as it was intended for local pedestrian traffic. Its upper surface is cobbled and has worn down towards the center rather than the sides. The architectural details indicate that it predates the 18th century. This bridge is a rare surviving example of this type of small rural bridge.
