Description

Acacia House and The Firs are a pair of houses dating from the mid-18th century, with later alterations. They are constructed of coursed sandstone freestone with limestone dressings, topped by slate roofs with raised coped verges and stone gable stacks. The main house is two storeys and five windows wide, with the central three bays projecting slightly. All windows are sash windows, some with replacement glazing bars, set within raised, moulded architraves and keystones. The central entrance features a panelled and glazed door within a moulded architrave, highlighted by a heavy triple keystone and a pediment resting on consoles. Architectural details include a plinth, band course, cornice, parapet and coping. The pediment above the central three bays features a blind lunette within the tympanum. To the left of the main house is a single-storey wing with a round-headed sash window featuring Gothic intersecting glazing bars within a round-headed recess; a band course runs from the imposts of this recess. A two-storey wing, likely built later but in a matching style, is positioned to the right and slightly set back, featuring a continuous band course and a single sash window on the ground floor and two on the first floor. A further single-storey wing is located to the right, with a round-headed, 20th century panelled and glazed door within a recess. The interior has not been inspected.
