Description
No. 4 Church Street is a pair of attached houses, now functioning as a single residence, dating from the early 19th century with later alterations. The building is constructed of painted stone rubble and features an asbestos slate roof with gable ends and gable end stacks that have brick shafts.
Originally, No. 4 was on the right and No. 5 on the left. No. 4 had a two-room layout with a central entrance, and the room on the right was heated by a gable end stack. No. 5 had a one-room layout with an entrance directly into the room, which was also heated by a gable end stack on the left.
The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical five-window front. The first floor has three 19th-century 16-pane sash windows alternating with blind windows, all featuring brick segmental arches. The ground floor has three 12-pane sash windows, also with brick segmental arches, and below each blind window on the first floor is a 20th-century half-glazed door with a flat lintel. The interior has not been inspected.
