Description
No. 9 Church Street is a pair of attached houses, originally numbered 8 and 9, now functioning as a single residence. Built in the 18th century, it has undergone alterations in the 19th century and later. The structure is made of painted stone rubble with brick dressings and features an asbestos slate roof with gable ends. There is a gable end stack to the right with a brick shaft, and No. 9 shares a gable end stack to the left with No. 10 Church Street.
The original layout consisted of two one-room plan houses, each heated from a gable end stack, with paired central entrances. The door to the original No. 9, located on the left, has been blocked, likely in the mid-19th century, and a window has been inserted in its place.
The exterior is two storeys high and features a nearly symmetrical four-window front, with all windows being 4-pane sashes from the 19th century, complete with cambered brick heads. The second window from the right on the ground floor is a 20th-century half-glazed door.
