Description

Ingledene is a house located on Harewood Road in Calstock, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with earlier features from the 17th century and possibly incorporating part of an earlier house. The building has seen few later alterations. It is constructed of painted stone rubble, with some slate-hanging, and has a slate roof that features a gable end on the right and is hipped on the left. The axial stacks were originally positioned at the gable ends and have rubble shafts.

The house has a two-room plan with a central entrance, where each room is heated from a gable end stack. An addition of one room was likely made to the left side around the early 19th century; if this room was heated, the stack has since been removed. There is also a two-storey lean-to added to the rear of this addition.

The exterior is two storeys high and features a nearly symmetrical three-window front. The ground floor has a central 20th-century half-glazed door with a reused 17th-century granite lintel, and to the right, there is a 19th-century 12-pane sash window with a cambered brick arch. The first floor has three similar 12-pane sash windows. The left side has long and short granite quoins. Attached to the left is a one-bay section with a four-centred arched doorway featuring a greenstone arch that is chamfered and has granite springers; the door has cover strips. There is a similar 12-pane sash window on the first floor to the right. The left side of the building is slate-hung and has a plate-glass sash window with sidelights on the first floor. The lean-to at the rear has a 20th-century first-floor window. At the rear of the main house, there is a plate-glass sash window to the left and a two-light casement window to the right on the ground floor; on the first floor, there are two plate-glass sashes and a central round-arched stair light with Gothic glazing bars, all with brick jambs and voussoirs. The lean-to features a narrow door and a two-light casement window on the first floor with reused granite lintels. The interior is not accessible.
