6/64 Limekilns at N.G.R. - SJ 2668 2388

  • II

Limekilns, now disused. Probably early C19. Regularly coursed and dressed limestone rubble. High revetment wall with sloping buttresses and 4 segmental- headed kilns, left with engineering brick to arch. Platform to front has lower revetment wall. Kilns open to top, 3 to right linked by segmental- arched tunnel; brick ovens to rear. The left kiln is probably a later addition. A well-preserved example of its type.
