Description

Chytroon Farmhouse is a house dating from the late 18th century. It features a stuccoed front, while the rest of the walls are painted rubble. The roof is made of scantle slate and has brick chimneys at the gable ends. There is a cast iron ogee gutter at the front. The layout consists of two rooms on either side of a through passage: the larger room on the left is likely a hall or kitchen, and the smaller room on the right is a parlour, with a later single-storey lean-to added at the far right.

The house is two storeys tall and has a slightly irregular three-window front facing east. The stucco front includes a plinth, rusticated quoin strips, and band architraves around the ground floor openings, with a keyed design over the doorway. The doorway, which has a 20th-century door, is positioned off-centre to the right. The ground floor openings feature shallow arches, and the windows are wide. All front windows, except for the 20th-century window in the lean-to on the right, are original 18th-century casements with eight panes per light, with three-light windows on the ground floor and two-light windows on the first floor. The rear of the house has one original 16-pane two-light casement on the left side of the first floor, while the rest are later sashes.

The survival of the 18th-century casements is particularly noteworthy, especially considering the 19th-century alterations.
