Description
The gate-piers, steps, and churchyard wall located southwest of the Church of Saint Piran were built in the early to late 19th century. The churchyard wall is constructed from killas rubble, while the steps, piers, and copings are made of dressed granite, complemented by wrought iron railings. The wall encloses and supports the west side of the churchyard, featuring a wide gateway at the lower south end that is accessed by a broad flight of eight steps, which decrease in width towards the top. At the landing, there is a filled-in cattle grid flanked by dressed granite side benches against the granite-coped rubble walling. The closed string copings are topped with square piers that serve as newel posts for simple iron railings, each featuring two thin square stanchions and a handrail that is scrolled underneath at the bottom. There is an additional gateway to the west of the church tower, which has granite gate-piers and early to mid-19th century wrought iron gates with roundels on the lock rails.
