Description

The Moorings is a house dating from the early 19th century. It is built of painted shale rubble with a stuccoed front, featuring granite and slate sills. The roof is hipped and covered with grouted scantle slate, with painted brick chimneys on the side walls and two chimneys at the rear of the adjoining parallel wings. The layout is a double pile plan, which includes an axial passage that separates the front reception rooms from the rear service rooms. There are two reception rooms on either side of the central cross passage, with a staircase located behind the left-hand room. A kitchen is situated beyond the staircase, and there is an additional room at the rear right, possibly used as a dairy. The house has two storeys and a symmetrical three-window south front. The central doorway features a 20th-century glazed door, and there is a 19th-century cast iron porch with a pedimented lattice design, likely made at the nearby Perran Foundry. The original 16-pane hornless sash windows can be found on the front and sides of the house. The east entrance front has a blind side wall on the left and a two-window wing on the right. There is a doorway to the left of the wing that includes a panelled door, an overlight, panelled reveals, and a simple wooden doorcase. The interior has not been inspected.
