Description

The Vicarage is a former vicarage that has been converted into a private house, dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed from shale rubble with dressed granite sills and shallow brick arches. The roof is made of dry Delabole slate and features wide eaves, with the main roof having tall brick chimneys with plinths and cornices over the gable ends. There is an additional roof on the right side that is set back from the front, featuring an axial brick stack over a cross wall and a hip on the east side. The building has cast iron ogee gutters.

The layout is unusual, consisting of two overlapping rectangles of single depth. The main reception area, which has two rooms, is positioned forward and to the left of the stair and service wing, which is located on the right. The main block on the left includes two equal reception rooms connected by a through passage that leads to another passage behind the right-hand room, which leads to the stair on the right and a two-room service area beyond. There is also a later single-storey lean-to at the far right end.

The building is two storeys high and features an overall six-window south front. The left side has a symmetrical three-window arrangement with a central doorway, while the right side has an asymmetrical three-window arrangement for the stair and service area, which is set back. The original windows are hornless sashes, except for three-horned replacement sashes at the service end. A cast iron latticed porch with an entablature and wide cornice, likely made at the nearby Perran Foundry, leads to a 20th-century door. The windows include 16-pane sashes, a tall 18-pane mid-floor sash to the left of the service end, and four 20-pane sashes with higher meeting rails at the rear of the service end. The interior has not been inspected.
