Description

Ardensawah Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around the mid-19th century. It is constructed from roughly-coursed granite rubble with granite dressings and features asbestos slate on the front and grouted scantle slate roofs. The roofs are hipped at the front, with brick chimneys positioned over the side walls of the front roof and two chimneys over the gable ends of the rear wing. There is a 20th-century extension on the right side of the building.

The farmhouse has a double depth plan with a deep integral kitchen wing that includes a servants' stair, situated at right angles behind the left-hand side. The layout consists of two rooms at the front, which flank an entrance hall that leads to a stair hall and a service room located behind the right-hand room, all under a separate parallel roof.

The exterior is two storeys high and features a nearly symmetrical three-window front on the southeast side, with a doorway located to the left of the middle, central to the windows. The entrance includes an old four-panel door with glazed top panels and an original overlight. The windows are likely original 16-pane horned sashes, similar to those on other elevations. The southwest front has four windows, with alternate bays appearing blind, painted to resemble windows.

Inside, the farmhouse retains many original features, including an open-well stair with an open string and stick balusters, as well as panelled doors throughout.
