Description

Ardensawah Cottages are a pair of small houses built around the late 19th century. The front is cement rendered, while the rest is constructed from granite rubble with granite dressing. They have a scantle slate roof with brick chimneys at the gable ends and over the cross party wall, along with a cast-iron ogee-section gutter.

The cottages are identical but mirror images of each other and remain completely unaltered. Each house features a full-depth kitchen/living room, a small parlour with a pantry behind, a lobby entrance leading to a straight flight stair between the kitchen and parlour, and a rear lobby entrance behind the stair. The kitchens are located at the far left and right of each house.

The exterior is two storeys high with a total of six windows on the south-west front. Each house has a nearly symmetrical three-window front with a doorway that is approximately central, although each doorway is positioned closer to the middle of the pair. The doors are old ledged types with overlights, and the original 16-pane horned sash windows are intact. The rear of the cottages is unaltered, featuring original ledged doors with overlights, 16-pane sashes for the pantries, and 12-pane sashes for the stair landings.

The interiors have also remained completely unaltered and retain all original features, including four-panel doors, cast-iron Cornish ranges, and cast-iron gates to the parlour and bedrooms.
