Description
The farm buildings north of Lower Porthmeor Farmhouse date from the early to mid 19th century. They are constructed from granite rubble with granite dressings and feature a scantle slate roof on the far left, while the rest of the buildings primarily have corrugated asbestos roofs, with some areas covered in corrugated iron. The buildings form an overall L-shaped range built in four main phases, likely serving as shippons. There is a deeper barn on the right with a granary above the shippon and a later 19th-century dairy at a right angle to the front on the right side. The barn has thicker walls at the front, which may indicate parts of an older structure. There is a loading and winnowing doorway at the first floor rear-left of the barn, along with a roofless porch opposite and a winnowing opening at the front. The exterior presents an irregular range with four roof levels, mostly single storey except for the two-storey barn on the right. The south-east front slopes down to the left, featuring original doorways and small window openings. The interior has not been inspected. These buildings are part of an unspoiled coastal hamlet situated within the ancient field system of this area of Cornwall.
