Description
This is a planned group of farm buildings dating from around 1902, arranged on three sides of a courtyard. The complex includes a granary above a shippon, flanking fodder houses, a further shippon, stables, and a cartshed, along with courtyard walls and gate piers. The buildings are constructed from dressed granite, granite rubble, and reused granite ashlar, topped with scantle slate roofs featuring granite coped gable ends and roll-moulded kneelers.
The layout is U-shaped, with a central two-storey bank barn that has a granary or hay store above the shippon. Single-storey fodder houses occupy the outer corners, while deep single-storey ranges extend at right angles in front. A high yard wall with a central gateway runs parallel to the front of the barn. The left-hand range serves as a shippon, and the right-hand range likely contains stables, with a cartshed positioned in front, open to the side away from the courtyard.
The exterior remains unaltered, featuring symmetrical two-storey, two-window fronts on the barn with central opposing doorways and sliding doors leading to the first floor. The left-hand shippon has a symmetrical four-window courtyard front with a central doorway, while the right-hand range likely contains stables, also with a symmetrical two-window courtyard front and a central doorway. The interior, where inspected, retains original standings. This group of buildings is part of an unspoiled coastal hamlet set within the ancient field system of this area in Cornwall.
