Description

Higher Porthmeor Old Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century. It is constructed of granite rubble with granite dressings and has a scantle slate roof featuring an external dressed granite stack at the left-hand gable end. The building has a plan consisting of two rooms, with a hall/kitchen on the left and a smaller room, which may be unheated, on the right. There is a central rear opening that may have originally served as a doorway to the first floor. In the 19th century, the eaves were raised, and the floor and roof structure were renewed.

The exterior is two storeys high and features a nearly symmetrical two-window front facing southwest, with a doorway located centrally to the fenestration. The original doorway and ground floor openings remain, while the first-floor openings were remodeled in the 19th century. The ground floor includes a ledged door and shuttered windows.

Inside, there is a large fireplace with an oak lintel in the left-hand part of the house. The farmhouse is part of an unspoiled coastal hamlet set within the ancient field system of this area of Cornwall.
