Description
White Hart Cottage is a public house and cottage that has been converted into a house. It consists of two sections, with the main part dating from the 17th century and the other from the 18th century, featuring later alterations. The building is constructed of regularly coursed ironstone rubble and has a steeply pitched thatched roof, with brick end stacks resting on stone bases. The layout is a two-unit plan, with a single storey plus an attic and a three-window range.
The entrance is located off-centre to the left and features a plank door with a glazed light. This entrance is flanked by a 20th-century casement window with a wooden lintel and a three-light metal casement window that has a wrought-iron casement fastener, hood mould, and label stops. To the right, there is a small stone-framed window. The attic includes three three-light wooden casement windows with wooden lintels. At the rear, there is a single-storey thatched service extension.
Inside, the cottage showcases stop-chamfered beams, chamfered joists, and a fireplace with a bressumer. The right section of the building, dating from the 18th century, is made of squared, coursed ironstone rubble and features a 20th-century tiled roof with a brick ridge stack. There is a blocked entrance on the left with a wooden lintel, along with 19th and 20th-century windows. The former coach house has been converted into a garage with carriage doors.
