Description
The Royal George Public House is a cottage that has been converted into a public house, dating from the 17th century. It is constructed of local stone rubble with Ham stone dressings and features a double Roman clay tile roof with stepped coped gables and brick end chimney stacks. The building is two stories high and has three bays.
The windows are hollow chamfered mullioned types, with four lights on the ground floor and three lights above the central doorway. The doorway itself is chamfered and cambered arched, with incised spandrils and frames a boarded door. Above the doorway is a label that may have originally been continuous over the windows. There is a matching two-light window on the east gable, while the west side has a single-storey extension with a plain clay tile roof, two raked buttresses, and casement windows. Additional 19th-century extensions are located at the rear.
The interior has not been fully examined, but it includes a notable cambered arched fireplace with incised spandrils on the east wall, alongside a staircase aperture. There are also some early cupboards and panelling present.
