Description
The Old Inn is a cottage that was formerly a public house, dating from the 18th century but with older origins. It has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of coursed ironstone rubble and features a 20th-century pantile roof with brick end stacks. It has a two-unit plan and is two stories high with a one-window range. A 20th-century part-glazed plank door is located to the left of the center within a 20th-century gabled timber porch. There is a 20th-century two-light casement window on the ground floor to the left, which has a segmental-arched brick head, and to the right, there are three-light casements on both the ground and first floors; the ground floor window has a cemented segmental-arched brick head, while the first-floor window has a wooden lintel. A brick lean-to extension is present on the left, along with a single-storey 20th-century extension on the right.
Inside, the property features chamfered spine beams, old quarry tile floors, and a brick-vaulted cellar located at the semi-basement level to the rear of the room on the ground floor left. The earliest title deed dates back to 1660, where the property is already referred to as an inn. It remained a public house until recently, known as the King William IV. The building is included for its group value.
