22 And 23, Market Square

22 and 23 Market Square are two shops and dwellings dating from the early 19th century, with possible earlier elements. The buildings feature rendered walls with stucco dressings, limestone rubble, and Welsh-slate roofs with brick stacks. They are linked ranges with rear wings.

No. 22 has a two-storey stuccoed front with two windows, rusticated quoins, and a deep moulded cornice. It features tall first-floor windows with 20th-century frames and a shop front that retains flanking carved consoles and a cornice above the fascia, along with wide arched spandrelled heads to the windows.

No. 23, to the left, has a narrow three-storey stuccoed front with a cornice that breaks around full-height pilaster strips and a low parapet connecting with No. 22. The first floor includes a canted bay window, while the second floor has a segmental-arched 16-pane sash window. The ground-floor shop front features a 19th-century bay window with spandrelled arched heads and a projecting fascia on carved consoles with a moulded cornice. The roof is shallow-pitched and hipped to the left. The rear wings are constructed of rubble. The interiors have not been inspected.
