Description
9 and 11 Silver Street are two shops from the early 19th century located in Ilminster. The buildings feature incised stucco with a crested slate roof and brick stacks at the gable ends and party wall. They have a double-depth plan and rise three storeys with a three-window range. All windows are 8/8-pane sashes set in forward frames.
No. 9, on the left, has a symmetrical two-window range and a mid-19th century shop front. This shop front includes set-back double doors with an overlight, flanked by plate-glass bay windows supported by colonnettes, which have ornamental segmental-arched tops. These elements support a projecting cornice that curves back at the corners and forms the shop fascia.
No. 11, on the right, is a single-range building; the first-floor window is set above a cast-iron, crested fascia. A 20th-century shop window is located to the right, with the door positioned to the left of centre. The interior has not been inspected.
