Description
1 and 3 Silver Street is a corner shop built around 1840, constructed from Ham Hill stone ashlar and topped with a hipped, crested slate roof. The building has an L-shaped plan and rises three storeys with a six-window range. It features two pilasters with incised key-patterns at the tops, one on the far right and one on the left of the Silver Street facade, which support a continuous moulded cornice beneath a low parapet wall. All windows are adorned with keystones.
On the Ditton Street side, there are three late 19th-century two-over-two pane sash windows on the first floor and six-over-six pane sash windows on the second floor. The other windows are eight-over-eight pane sashes, with two on each floor to the right, a similar curved window on the corner, and a blind window above it. The late 19th-century shop front features an entrance in Silver Street with set-back double half-glazed doors and an overlight, flanked by plate-glass windows with colonnettes topped with ornamentation. There is a curved window on the corner and a single window in Ditton Street.
The continuous fascia has cast-iron cresting, and to the far right below it is a Regency-style six-panel door with an overlight featuring a circular design flanked by diamonds. A large horizontal key on brackets hangs between the right and inside-right windows of the first floor. The interior of the ground floor has been completely altered.
