Description
No. 1 Ditton Street is a hotel that has been converted into shops. It dates back to the 17th century and was remodeled in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with brick detailing on the south front, while the west and part of the north front are roughcast. It features a hipped pantile roof with a brick stack located to the left of the center.
The south front has two storeys and a six-window range, with 2/2-pane sash windows that have brick jambs and stone lintels on the first floor. The ground floor has 20th-century shop fronts. The west front, which faces Ditton Street, includes a 2/2-pane sash window on the first floor above a right-of-centre labelled hoodmould that leads to a 20th-century plate-glass shop window.
On the north front, there is a stepped-forward gable with a round-arched attic window at the apex. The ground floor features a wide canted bay with a pantile roof, which supports a smaller canted bay with a plain tile roof on the first floor, both with 2/2-pane sashes. To the right of the bay is a 17th-century panelled-and-studded door set beneath a 19th-century elliptical arch. To the left, there is a 20th-century single-storey brick building with a pantile roof that steps back in three stages. The interior has not been inspected.
