Description
No. 132 King Street is an early 18th-century house that has been converted into two shops with accommodation above in the 19th century, and later into one shop in the 20th century. The building is constructed of colourwashed brick and features both plain-tile and pantile roofs. It has a plan consisting of two parallel ranges, with two storeys and a dormer attic. The façade has a four-window range and includes a plate-glass shop front dating from around 1860, which has two recessed entrances. Above the shop front, there is a modillion cornice and wrought and cast-iron balcony railings. The first floor is illuminated by four 6/6 unhorned sash windows set in flush frames, which are positioned under gauged skewback arches. A moulded platband runs beneath the eaves. The gabled roof has two flat-topped dormers, each with 3/3 unhorned sashes. There is an internal gable-end stack on the north side, and to the south, there is an unused door in Row 119. The rear of the building features a gabled parallel range with pantiles and a full-height 19th-century gabled wing. The ground floor has been opened out into a single sales area, while the first floor has not been inspected.
