Description
No. 131 King Street is a shop with accommodation above, dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of red brick and has a roof made of concrete pantiles. The building stands three storeys high with a dormer attic and features a three-window range. The shop front has been updated with a 20th-century plate-glass design.
To the right, there is an opening to Row 119, which includes a sunk quadrant-moulded 17th-century bridging beam. The first floor is illuminated by a 6/6 unhorned sash window set within a flush frame and topped by a gauged skewback arch. To the left of this window, there is a late 18th-century bow window with cut-back returns, featuring a front curve with three 6/6 unhorned sashes and side panels, each containing one 2/2 unhorned sash.
The frieze below the cornice is decorated with leaf-trail carving and is supported by a dentil and modillion cornice. On the second floor, there are three 6/6 sash windows in flush frames, each under gauged skewback arches. The eaves cornice also has dentils and modillions. The gabled roof includes a single dormer fitted with a fixed 8-paned window, and there are no chimney stacks. The full-height rear cross-wing is rendered and gabled, with 20th-century windows. The interior has not been inspected.
