Description

No. 8 East Street is a shop and dwelling built around 1850. It is constructed from Ham Hill stone ashlar and features a tarred slate roof with stepped stone coping and a rendered stack on the right gable end. The building has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall with a single-window range. The mid-19th century shop front occupies the entire ground floor, supported by plain pilasters and featuring reeded consoles along with cast-iron cresting on the moulded fascia. The door includes margin panes above the overlight, while the rest of the glazing is from the 20th century. The upper floors are separated by a platband and have 8/8-pane sash windows set within moulded architraves that include enlarged corner squares. The right side has rusticated quoin detailing, and there is a heavy moulded cornice beneath the parapet. The interior has not been inspected.
