Description
Barclays Bank is a shop, now functioning as a bank, built around 1840. The building is made of stucco with painted stone details and has a slate roof with stepped stone coping on the gable ends. It has a double-depth plan and is two storeys high, featuring a symmetrical three-window arrangement. All windows are 6/6-pane sashes set in moulded architraves. The bays are defined by plain pilasters with block capitals that support a moulded cornice, and there is a low parapet covered in lead.
There are three slate steps leading up to the central Ham Hill stone doorcase, which was added around 1970. This doorcase features a moulded elliptical arch supported by engaged columns in a Tuscan style. To the right, there are steps leading up to a former doorway, and attached to the right corner is a 20th-century single-storey wing, which has a coping that sweeps up to the main building and includes one 6/6-pane sash window. The interior of the ground floor has been completely altered.
