Description

This early 19th century shop is situated on East Street in Ilminster. The building is constructed of Ham Hill stone ashlar with stepped stone copings, and has a slate roof with brick stacks to the gable ends. It has a double-depth plan and is two storeys high with a two-window front. The first floor windows are 8/8-pane sash windows with forward frames. The ground floor contains a door with eight raised panels, the top two of which are glazed, and a shop front set slightly forward on a stone plinth and under a moulded cornice. The shop front has double doors with an overlight; the top panel of each door is arched in a Tudor style, while the lower panels are plain. This is flanked by three-light shop windows with Tudor-style arches to each pane, set between slender colonnettes resting on a moulded sill. A wrought-iron bracket supports the gutter. The interior of the shop has not been inspected.
