Description
Petherton Cottage is an early 19th century cottage situated at a right angle to the road, with its gable end facing the street. The construction is limestone rubble with brick dressings around the window openings. It is roofed with slate, featuring stepped stone coping, moulded kneelers, and a brick stack to the gable end. The building is on a trapezoid plan.
The two-storey west front has a three-window range. A flight of steps leads to a 20th century planked door, positioned slightly to the left of centre, flanked by a three-light window to the right and a two-light window to the left, both beneath wooden lintels. Two further windows are 20th century insertions to the far left. The south-facing street front has a two-light casement window on each floor, the ground floor window being approximately 3 metres above street level.
The interior’s date is uncertain, though there is reportedly a well located under the kitchen at the rear of the property. The cottage is included on the list for its group value.
