Description
No. 2 East Street is a house, now a shop, located at the corner of East Street and Ditton Street in Ilminster. It dates from the late 18th century and is constructed of painted brick with painted stone dressings and a hipped slate roof. The building has a double-depth plan and features a two-storey front facing East Street with a three-window range. The ground floor has been altered for a 20th-century shop. The first floor includes six-over-six pane tripartite sash windows on either side of an eight-over-eight pane sash window in the center, all set within plain surrounds that have stepped keystones. There is a moulded eaves cornice and rusticated quoin detailing on the long right return, which has a platband and one tripartite window on the first floor to the right, above a blocked doorway, both also in plain surrounds with stepped keystones. The interior has been completely altered. The rear part of the building was previously listed as No. 1 Ditton Street on August 19, 1970.
