Description

This is a shaft for a drinking fountain located in Ilminster's Market Place. It dates from the 19th century and was rebuilt in 1982. The structure is made of Ham Hill stone and sits on a slate base, standing approximately 2.5 meters high. It has a tapering hexagonal shape with a double plinth and features segmental arches that create recessed panels on each face. A moulded cornice is situated below a step that leads up to a hexagonal pyramidal cap. Although the pump has been removed, there is a small trough and drain located at the base on the east side.
