Description
No. 1 North Street is a house that has been converted into offices. It was built in the early 19th century and altered in the late 19th century. The building is constructed from Ham Hill stone ashlar and features a slate roof with stepped stone copings and brick stacks at the gable ends, one of which is truncated. It has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall with a three-window range.
On the second floor, there are three 3/6-pane sash windows, while the first floor has 6/6-pane sash windows. The ground floor features a 19th-century shop front. The central doorcase is adorned with a pediment supported by consoles and has moulded panels on the pilasters. The door is a 20th-century six-panel type with a semicircular overlight that includes one vertical glazing bar. Flanking the door are three round-headed plate-glass shop windows with stone mullions and sunk spandrels, all set within a recessed moulded frame. To the far left, there are steps leading up to a moulded architrave surrounding a recessed 20th-century glazed door with a large overlight. Below the windows on the left, there is a cast-iron basement grille featuring a key-pattern design with balls. The interior has not been inspected.
