Description

This mid-18th century shop and dwelling, now offices, is located on the north side of Bicester Market Square. The building comprises a main range with a long rear wing. It is constructed of chequer brick with some red-brick dressings, limestone rubble, and has a Welsh-slate roof with rebuilt brick gable stacks. The symmetrical three-window front is flanked by projecting brick strips that rise above the eaves. A first-floor storeyband and a brick dentil eaves course are also visible. The upper windows have red-brick segmental arches and contain four-pane sashes, which are slightly smaller on the second floor. The middle windows are blind, except for the top one, which holds a sundial. The shop front retains narrow, panelled pilasters to the flanking doorways, which have carved consoles supporting a fascia with a modillion cornice. The rear of the main range is constructed of rubble. The interior has not been inspected.
