Description

Crown Yard is a house and attached cottage that have been combined into one building. The left part dates from the early 18th century and is constructed of coursed squared ironstone with a 20th-century wood shingle roof and a brick ridge stack. It has a two-unit plan and stands two storeys high with a four-window range. The entrance is located on the left and is accessed via stone steps, featuring a plank door with a moulded wood frame and wood lintel. To the right of the entrance, there are two three-light wood casement windows with wrought-iron casement fasteners and wood lintels. The building also has four 20th-century attic windows beneath a swept roof line. The rear of this section includes a two-storey staircase projection.

The right part of the building is from the late 17th century and is made of coursed ironstone rubble, topped with a steeply pitched wood shingle roof and a brick end stack. It has a single-unit plan and is two storeys high with a cellar. The entrance is at the rear, while the elevation facing the street features a flat-splay three-light stone mullioned window. Both the ground and first floors have three-light metal casement windows set in wood frames, with lead cames, crown glass, and wrought-iron casement fasteners. The interior has not been inspected. The building is marked on the Ordnance Survey map as The Quillet and The Steps.
