Description

Rose Cottage is a building that was originally two houses, now functioning as a single dwelling. It dates from the early to mid-18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries.

The left part of the cottage features squared coursed limestone and coursed limestone rubble, topped with a steeply pitched slate roof and a brick end stack. It has a two-unit plan, is two storeys high, and has a three-window range. The entrance, located off-centre to the left, has a 20th-century door set within a moulded wood frame and a wood lintel, accompanied by an open iron-work part with a pyramidal head. Flanking the entrance are three-light metal casement windows in wood frames, which include chamfered wood lintels, lead cames, and wrought-iron casement fasteners. The first floor features three similar two- and three-light windows, also with wood lintels. Ironstone quoins are present on the left side.

The right part of the cottage is constructed from coursed limestone rubble and has a steeply pitched thatched roof, along with a brick end stack. This section also has a two-unit plan and is two storeys high, with a two-window range. The approximately central entrance is now blocked and features a wood lintel. The ground floor has two-light metal casement windows in wood frames, with lead cames, wrought-iron casement fasteners, and chamfered wood lintels. The first floor has two renewed wood casements with lead cames. The interior has not been inspected.
