Description
The Old Rectory is a late 17th-century rectory, later used as a house, with 19th-century additions and 20th-century alterations. It is constructed of squared coursed limestone with a steeply pitched slate roof, brick end stacks, and is arranged in a T-plan with a central range and a later range to the rear, plus further 19th-century single-storey additions. The front elevation has two storeys plus attics and a three-window range. A blocked original entrance is in the left gable, replaced by a 20th-century entrance with a window opening and a 20th-century Tuscan porch. This new entrance is flanked by two-light wood mullioned and transomed windows with keyblock stone heads. The first floor features three two-light wood mullioned and transomed windows with keyblock stone heads, lead cames, and wrought-iron springs. There are also three flat-roofed dormers. The interior includes a fireplace with a chamfered bressumer and a room featuring a beamed ceiling. A cellar is also said to exist. The building was mentioned in 1679 and suffered a fire in 1928.
