Description
WROXTON MAIN STREET SP4040-4140 (North side) 10/222 The Homestead 08/12/55 (Formerly listed as House approx. 130yds W of the School) GV II 2 cottages now house. Late C17/early C18 with C19 alterations. Coursed ironstone rubble. C20-tile roof. Brick ridge and end stacks are on a stone base. 3-unit plan with further unit on right originally of single storey now with C19 upper storey. 3-window range to earliest part, one-window on right. Entrance to right has panelled/glazed door and moulded wood frame. C20 rustic porch. A blocked entrance with wood lintel and 2-light, 3-light and 4-light windows, the latter 2 with iron bars, metal casements in wood frames and wrought-iron casement fasteners. Painted wood lintels. First floor has two 3-light wood casements and a 3-light metal casement in wood frame with lead cames. Wood lintels. Right part has a 3-light C19 metal casement on ground floor and a late C19/early C20 window above, both with wood lintels. Tie-bar on front elevation to left. Interior has stop-chamfered beams, inglenook fireplace with bressumer, plank doors with strap hinges and 2-storey staircase projection now disused. Later staircase on rear elevation to right. Stud partition to former pantry.
