Description
Southmoor Cottage is an early 18th-century building that was originally two dwellings and is now a house. It is constructed of colourwashed limestone rubble and features a half-hipped thatch roof with a brick gable end stack on the left side. The cottage has a two-unit plan, is one storey high with an attic, and has a two-window range. The windows are modern, with timber lintels above, and there are two central blocked doorways. The front also includes two 18th-century three-light leaded dormer casements, while the rear has an 18th-century two-light leaded dormer casement.
To the left is a service wing that is at right angles to the front, made of similar materials and featuring an 18th-century plank door. At the back of this wing is a late 18th-century bay constructed of coursed limestone rubble, with a gabled old tile roof. This bay is also one storey high with an attic and has timber lintels over 18th-century two-light leaded casements. There is a former stable and smithy at the rear, built of coursed limestone rubble, with modern weatherboarding on the right side wall and a gabled thatch roof. Inside, the front range, which was originally two units, has a collar-truss roof with butt purlins, and there is a collar-truss in the front service range.
