Description
No. 1 and the railed area is a house dating from around 1816, located in Ramsgate on The Paragon. It is constructed of white stock brick, partly rendered, and features a plain tiled roof. The building stands four storeys tall, including a basement and attic, and has a string course and a parapet above a hipped roof with a flat-roofed dormer. The windows are arranged regularly, with three sash windows on both the second and third floors, and two French windows alongside a central sash on the first floor.
A tented verandah with wrought valancing is supported by pierced iron piers and has a wrought baluster rail. On the ground floor, there are two canted oriels, and the basement has a metal casement that is partly roofed over. The central entrance door is made up of six raised and fielded panels and features a semi-circular fanlight in a panelled and moulded surround, positioned at the top of a flight of steps with simple iron rails. Although this is a fine example of Regency architecture, it does not appear to share the same build or character as the main terrace nearby.
