Description

No 1 East Street is a house with a shop, dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. It features a stucco exterior and a roof that is primarily tiled, with some slate. The building is two storeys high with an attic and has three windows. It has a plinth, plain walling, and wide eaves. The windows are sashes set in reveals, and there is one angular bay that was formerly a shop window, protected by a metal rail over cellar openings.

There are two classical doorways: one has a cornice frieze, pilasters, panelled reveals, and a six-panelled door, while the other, from the early 19th century, features a moulded canopy on carved brackets, thin pilasters, and a three-light fanlight above a six-panelled door. The roof is hipped at the corner and includes three flat-roofed dormers with sashes. The east side of the building has lower eaves and an inserted continuous dormer with a slate roof above. The short return facade facing Broad Street has a 20th-century shopfront.
