Description
Nos 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14 Broad Street is a former coaching inn that has been converted into flats above two shops. The building dates from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries and features painted brickwork with a tile roof. The symmetrical front, facing west, is two storeys high with five upper windows and a central ground-floor carriage entrance, flanked by a shop on each side. No 6, located to the south, is a 19th-century double-fronted shop with angular bays and a continuous frieze leading to the cornice. No 14, on the north side, has a 20th-century glass front with five units, one of which is a doorway. The painted brickwork is laid in Flemish bond and shows signs of altered openings, with a first-floor band that is broken by lowered windows, and plaster coved eaves with moulding. The windows are sash style in exposed frames. The carriageway features a recessed boarded doorway. The rear elevations, which have different projections, include three and a half-hipped gables and rise to three floors.
