Description
16, 18, and 20 Broad Street are houses and former shops, with No. 20 serving as the public library. They date from the 18th and 19th centuries and are constructed of stucco with a tile roof. The buildings are two storeys high with an attic and feature three windows. There are three flat-roofed dormers with modern casements and a modillion cornice. The first floor has Victorian sash windows. No. 16 includes a rectangular bay with a frieze and cornice that continues above the doorway, which has a fanlight and a 20th-century half-glazed door. No. 20 has a large window set within a plain framework of cornice, frieze, and pilasters, with the doorway on the north side also featuring a fanlight and half-glazed door. The third bay on the north side serves as a carriage entrance to George Yard.
