SU 5832 NEW ALRESFORD BROAD STREET (West Side)

13/23 Nos 7, & 9 5.12.55 GV II

House and shop. C18, early and mid C19. Brick, with a tile roof. There is a main block of 2 storeys and attic, 2 upper windows, with a lower addition on the south side (of 2 storeys 1 window) which is continuous in form with No 5a. Red brickwork in Flemish bond, 1st floor band, rendered ground-floor and plinth. Early C19 sashes in reveals: the ground floor has at the north side a mid C19 bay, with rounded sides, pilasters, sashes, and modern plain cornice. On the south side there is C19 double-fronted shop, with pilasters, oval-arched window heads, beneath a canopy which covers the footway and is supported by cast-iron columns, with decorative scrolls to the angle braces, the edge of the canopy having cast-iron scroll decoration. The stone doorcase (No 9) has a cornice on deep scroll brackets, an architrave which passes as an oval arch above a plain fanlight and 6-panelled (all glazed) door. 3 modern flat-roofed dormers.
