Description

Nos 7 and 9 on Broad Street are a house and shop built in the 18th century, with early and mid-19th century alterations. The building is constructed of brick and features a tile roof. It consists of a main block that has two storeys and an attic, with two upper windows. There is a lower addition on the south side that is two storeys high with one window, which is continuous in form with No 5a. The red brickwork is laid in Flemish bond, with a band at the first floor and a rendered ground floor and plinth.

The early 19th century sash windows are set in reveals. On the north side of the ground floor, there is a mid-19th century bay window with rounded sides, pilasters, sashes, and a modern plain cornice. The south side features a 19th century double-fronted shop, which has pilasters and oval-arched window heads beneath a canopy that covers the footway. This canopy is supported by cast-iron columns with decorative scrolls on the angle braces, and the edge of the canopy has cast-iron scroll decoration.

The stone doorcase for No 9 includes a cornice on deep scroll brackets and an architrave that forms an oval arch above a plain fanlight and a six-panelled door, all of which are glazed. Additionally, there are three modern flat-roofed dormers.
