Description
No. 24 Pavement is a house with a shop, dating from around 1800, with some late 19th century and 20th century alterations to the shopfront. The building is constructed of orange-red brick, using Flemish bond at the front and English garden-wall bond at the rear. It features a timber eaves cornice, a hipped tiled roof at the front, and a pantile roof at the rear, along with a brick chimney stack.
The exterior consists of three storeys and an attic, with a one-window front. The shopfront is framed by plain pilasters that support a moulded cornice on grooved brackets, with a replacement door and windows. Above the shopfront, there is a full-height shallow canted bay window extending to the first and second floors. This bay window has 8:12:8 sashes on the first floor and unequal 6:9:6 sashes on the second floor, both adorned with dentilled cornices. The attic features an inserted flat dormer with a 20th century top-hung window. An inverted bell rainwater head is located at the right end of the modillioned cornice.
At the rear, the building also has three storeys and an attic, with a one-window gable wall. The ground floor is obscured by a later building, and the windows have been replaced in the 20th century. The interior has not been inspected.
