SU 5832 NEW ALRESFORD BROAD STREET (West Side) 13/22 Nos 1, 3 & 5 (with 5.12.55 No 2 West Street)

Formerly one large house, now flats above shops, includes No 2 West Street. Mid C18,C19&C20.Painted brickwork, with a tile.roof. Symmetrical front (east) of 2-storeys and attic, 2.1.2 windows. Painted brickwork in Flemish bond, rubbed flat arches, moulded 1st floor band, stone cills, plinth. Victorian sashes, 3 flat-roofed dormers with sashes. The ground-floor on each side of the slightly-projecting centrepiece have shopfronts, with cor- nice and frieze. Hipped tile roof, with moulded eaves cornice (the lower modillion part now missing). Wide stone Doric doorcase, with 1.4.1 Triglyphs, fluted pilasters, and 8 panelled (2 top glazed) door, above stone steps The return (south) elevation to West Street is also symmetrical, of 1.1.1 windows, the projecting centrepiece resting on 10 cut brackets above the level of the 1st floor band. Victorian sashes, 1 dormer with sashes: the former ground-floor window on the west'side now formed as a C20 ½-glazed door, the east side being a shopfront with access on the angle. This front has the full modillion eaves cornice, returned at the angles.
